On this limited-edition DVD, Neil Peart documents the recording of Rush's album, Test for Echo (as well as the work in progress of Neil himself and his endless apprenticeship to the art of drumming). On this history-making DVD, he uses the songs from the new album to demonstrate concepts such as constructing a drum part, selecting rhythmic approaches, techniques, odd times, the drummer's role in a band, drum set orchestration, and creative timekeeping. This DVD features over 4 hours of video footage.

There is a good part and a bad part to this DVD. The good part is that Neil gives you good advice on song writing. He tells how to be unique and studious in your drumming. The part I don't like is that Neil doesn't suggest what to do regarding practicing and song writing. He tells you HIS technique and just expects you to go along doing everything his way. Drummers need to keep their options open and explore the techniques of other drummers and drumming styles. Neil doesn't mention this once in his "over 4 hours" DVD.

Neil Peart is by far the best rock drummer of all time. To have him teach you his technique is absolutely astounding. this instructional video is good for beginners and vetrans alike. Even if you don't learn how to play the songs, you still learn somthing from this video...

I don't play the drums, but I am a big Rush fan. I really enjoyed watching this video, because it gave some good insights into what goes into the music. The warmup is very cool, and Neil plays all of the songs from Test For Echo. Very cool!

If you like Rush and wanted to get an insight to the music they write this is it! I always wondered where they get ideas on their songs and this video not only explains that but the technique Neil uses. I will admit he does talk a lot, but don't we all? If he didn't talk how would we know how to do the things he explains. As far as no solos in the video that really doesn't bother but the warm-up he does is real nice. I suggest get if you want to learn more on your drumming, if you just want to watch and don't really want to learn then just get one of their videos. This is a must for any drummer of any level.

If you like to listen to Neil talk this is great. If you really want to learn how he plays some of the parts he is so famous for this DVD will be of very little help. Poor camera angles and short, poor explanations. More time should have been devoted to instruction in playing vs his talking about his recent experiences. Way too expensive. I wish I had not purchased this sad DVD. Be forewarned!!
