I was searching for a book to help me further my guitar development when I came upon Fretboard Logic.I bought the first book in the series (and also SE) which came with a DVD and boy was I glad I did! It was a real mind opener. I soon realized gaps in my understanding of how chords, scales and lead patterns relate to the fretboard and why the guitar is tuned the way it is. Needless to say, I wish I had this book/DVD years ago! The best part is that I found out that Mr. Edwards lives in my home town and I am now taking my 13 year son to Mr. Edwards for guitar lessons! How awesome is that! His progress under Mr. Edwards is simply astonishing! In just about six months time (missing about 4 lessons) he finished book one and is able to play both rhythm and lead parts to four to five beginner and intermediate level songs. He is now well under way to learning book two. I am amazed as I sit and watch my son play well beyond my 15 years of trying to teach myself.

I think this might be the best guitar book series ever. Most of the ones I've seen teach you music theory and some tecnique and THEN show you how its applied to the guitar. This book is more like a guitar instruction manual. Everything taught is guitar specific. Its like the old saying about giving a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach him how to fish and he eats for life. Give a man a scale or chord and he plays for a day; show a man how the guitar works to make them and he plays for life. This might not be the only book you'll ever need but I think it's easily the best choice for beginners or anybody that finds the books they're using or what they've been taught already unnecessarily complex.

This book is definitely titled correctly. It uses a very logical approach and teaches you what you need to know to play songs from chord charts and to improvise solos. No mucking around learning advanced techniques or wasting time learning obscure notation or scales. The latter part of the book contains quite a lot of advanced material and may be the only guitar book you will ever need.
