Okay but...

This book shows all the basic 3 note per string major scale patterns, pentatonic scales, and some chromatic stuff. The exercises are easy to follow and will help your technique.

But there isn't 248 pages worth of material. And it's not worth the price. He takes the exercises and shows them in all keys, using each fingering pattern. But the 'exercises' are just 3 and 4 note sequences. The same material could be covered just as well by showing the fingering patterns, the sequences for one pattern in one key, and then explaining how to move them to other fingerings and keys. The book is heavily padded to give the impression there is more information than actually exists.

The chord runs are not very interesting or challenging to play. Take one chord shape. Move it up the neck chromatically using sweep picking. Take another shape. Repeat.

Killer exercises

This book contains the exercises that will make you a coordinated and skilled fretboard maven. Up, down, in, around, over, under, in between... almost every immaginable exercise is laid out for you. Major and Pentatonic scales are used for the scale coil exercises.

One and two string exercises get you moving up the scale patterns on one string, or up and across the patterns with two string exercises.

Various chord runs that will cramp your hands and make you better at chord forms anywhere on the neck.

There are over 100 chromatic exercises that will get you skilled at string skipping and get your fingers dancing and prancing into every conceivable position.

I can identify two problems with the book overall:

1. The coil exercises are redundant. These take up almost half the book, when a simple explanation of what to do would have been satisfactory. He presents every pattern for *every* scale. That's absurd. Just show the pattern... and how to run the coil exercise, and be done with it. The student is smart enough to move the patterns on the neck to play the next scale.

2. There are no hammer-on, pull-off, or "finger" slide exercises, but I just devise my own from the exercises that are presented, so that's not really a big deal.

Overall, a fantastic and expansive journey down the road of fretboard exercise ideas.

A must have for any guitarist who wants to become dexterous and coordinated on the fretboard. Superb.
