Paperless music library will reinvent the way you look at music.
The MusicPad Pro's 12.1" TFT LCD backlit, color display is about the size of a sheet of music, but this digital music notebook does a heck of a lot more. All your sheet music, drill charts, lyrics, guitar tablature, bowing and fingering marks, class schedules, set lists, and other study and performance aids can all be kept in one convenient place. The innovative touch screen lets you make marks and notations right on the page of music, which you can store, change, and delete as needed without losing your original score. Plus you can zoom in and out to make fine annotations.
You can store an entire season's worth of concerts or an entire semester of classroom materials in one compact unit and add new scores or material at any time. It's easy to download music from freehandmusic.com, scan your music library, or import music from all the popular music and graphics programs directly into the MusicPad Pro.
The MusicPad's high-resolution, low glare, easy-to-read display with backlit touch screen eliminates the need for external lighting in low-light or no-light situations. And a quick touch on the screen or tap on the optional footpedal will turn the page for you. Plus, the convenient video out feature makes it easy to project your notes and annotations so you can share materials with students and colleagues.
Version 4.0 offers many enhancements over 3.0, including double the memory for 128MB of storage. Freehand has refreshed the interface to make it finger-friendly, so that you can now touch the icons instead of using the stylus. The file management capabilities have also been improved with an enhanced playlist function (you can now store up to 100 songs) and a browse/search capability that lets you type in search terms with the onboard keyboard or a USB 2.0 keyboard. Freehand has also expanded the notation palette with features like text, zoom, and advanced color palette and notations. Plus with the full version of a score purchased from the freehandmusic.com store, you can both transpose and play back a MIDI version of the score that shows the notes as they are being played. When you are playing a piece back the notes that are being played are highlighted so it's easy to follow along.
Version 4.0 comes equipped with premium tools, which you can unlock with a product key for $49.95 from freehandsystems.com. These tools include wireless networking, so you can network the MusicPad 4.0 via Ethernet or wireless connections. You also get audio functions including a metronome with both audio and visual options as well as a number of settings so you get just the beat and emphasis you need for whatever piece you're working on; a MusicPad version of a pitch pipe; and audio player to play, stop, pause, shuffle, and repeat MIDI and MP3 files. Premium tools also gives you access to additional pen colors and annotation tools.

well - these days you can buy a lpatop for under $1000 which is much better than the musicpad pro. Why this thing sucks?... 2 big reasons. All my music is already in PDF format - I tested about 50 sheets and I would say only about 30% of them were readible once they were converted to .fh (Freehand format which is very old technology). You also can only convert one file at a time - consiedring I have over 1000 sheets in PDF format - thisd conversion process would have been unbearable. I got my money back and now just used my laptop on the piano stand using Acrobat Reader in portrait view. Works way better!!!

Given the option of carrying around a bucket load of music to all our gigs vs. the Music Pad Pro...no brainer....it is the best !!!! Very simple to use for anyone with some basic computer scanning knowledge....most copiers offer this feature now adays.......even our 80+ year old members like it. I will never go back to sheet music...everyone who plays in our group trios/quartets (near 20 members, playing cocktail/dinner music...some nights double booked which is why we own multiple units) agree that it is a cool tool and makes life way easier. Many plus features....which even without would still be worth the money.......unless you have a hard time following directions....tech support has always been very helpful to a courteous call..

I would love to say that I love this item but I can't say that yet. At face value, the MPP seems like a great deal. I purchased five of them for a portion of the band at my church. Scanning all of the files, cutting and pasting and making them fit is tedious. Thankfully you can directly import a PDF file...with one catch, and it's a big catch. For some reason the MPP doesn't show all the lines on the staff for most of the charts I import. This is not a problem when I scan the charts or when I use Finale. There are literally 1000s of sheets of music to scan and mess with and PDFs are how I purchased most of my arrangements. If tech support can clear this up for me I'll give my MPP a 5-star rating. But for now, for my usage, I wouldn't buy another one.

I'm a professional musician who has lived in several countries over the past 16 years. I am weary of lugging around five cabinets of music, so last year I started scanning my music to my computer. When my husband surprised me with the gift of a MusicPad Pro, I was already set with my music PDFs. MP Pro is very user friendly, so you can start using it right away, though I did read the manual to take advantage of all the features. I recommend reading the tips for converting your files to the FreeHand format to get the most legible scores (see the "freehandsystems" support page). This is a wonderful product with excellent support.

I've owned the Music Pad for about 4 months now. It is a great tool, especially if you're like me and like to learn stuff from sheet music or books. I have tons and tons of books containing sheet music that after a while become cumbersome to use as a reference. The Music Pad makes everything so much easier and more accessible and user friendly than a book. Its fairly easy to use, I highly recommend you read the tips on freehand's website to help make scanning and converting files easier. Downloaded music from freehand's website look great and are easy to read. Scanned music looks great too, although time consuming to scan. Converted files from other formats may be too small to read and look terrible when enlarged. I'd recommend printing these and scanning instead. Don't buy freehand's foot pedal, instead buy a 2 button non-latching footswitch (I use a boss) and the appropriate cable and you can get reverse and forward page turning as opposed to freehand's forward only footswitch. I use a 1gb flash memory and it works fine with plenty of storage space. The internal battery is not reliable at all. After only 4 months, it will no longer hold a charge, something I will write to freehand about. Fits just fine on a regular music stand - no need to buy freehand's. My favorite feature is the ability to program the page sequence and creating playlists. Making notes is just as easy as using a pen, and looks neater too. Overall, a great product and has really made my life easier and learning new songs a breeze.
