A terrific foundation

When I first got this book I tried to fast track my way through it by reading a little bit of the lessons and just learning the playing examples. I eventually grew bored with it and tried to learn more complex stuff, only to realize that I had no education on things like keys, roots, chords, progressions, etc.

Now I'm going through the book again and actually reading every lesson and absorbing every bit of information and, WOW, was I missing a lot! This book provides a terrific foundation for the journey to learning how to play blues guitar. It starts off with the basics and moves forward at a comfortable pace. I enjoy it so much I even bring it to work with me every day and read it when I get a break.

You Can Play The Blues

If you have been playing blues for a while as I have you may find the start of the book too simple. As you progress, however, it get to the more advanced stuff. I have found new lead tones and some cool chords that I now use all the time. It's a very direct book not alot of history or verbage. Just try what it shows you and listen to the CD. If you have the blues in you you will have a blast with this book.

This book breaks it down. Easy to use, fun to learn. I have hundreds of tab book and spend a lot of time on the net looking for tab. There is a difference between memorizing tab and learning new stuff. This book really teaches useful stuff. I love it and recommend this book. Worth twice the money I spent on it, and will order Blues you can use II for sure.

Seriously cool book!

Seriously cool book!

I have been playing guitar for about two years, and this book is wonderful. It has opened up my vocabulary on the guitar by leaps. I typically play classic rock/blues/and country, and the techniques discussed in this book apply well to each of those genres.

The CD that accompanies the book is excellent in quality. The book will give you a lesson, which is usually a brief 2-3 page description of a new technique, and then give you a tab to work with. The CD includes a pro playing the piece so you can see how it is intended to sound. The samples cover traditional blues, Delta blues, Texas blues/rock, and shuffles.

If I had any complaint, it’s that the lessons text is very direct and to the point. This consciousness usually is great, but sometimes a bit more elaboration would be nice. However, for those moments I simply jump on the Internet and search up the keywords mentioned in the book’s text for more details.

So, as you can see, I’m a very pleased with this product. I am going after Blues/Use II next. I’d strongly recommend that you purchase and enjoy!

This is a great book for an intermediate level player looking for a good introduction to electric blues. It takes you through steps just like live lessons and is progressively challenging. Various blues styles are introduced. This is one of the few instructional books that motivates me to buy the second volume.
