Challenge the Masters could also be called "shred classical" in my book. The accompanying cd is in the style of "crank up the distortion and play as fast as possible." Many of the arrangements require extensive fretwork above the 12th fret, some going as high as the 24th. No chord diagrams, sparse fingerings in the staffs. Mostly it shows when you should tap and do upstrokes and downstorkes. Most arrangements are of the "solo style" in that it is meant to be played like a shred solo.

The selections stray from the average which turns out to be this book's best feature. By and large it is a Paganini excerpt book with some Bach and Mozart to round the corners.

This would be the perfect book for a guitarist that enjoys soloing in the traditional rock solo style. It is not a good book for an acoustic guitar player or a person who does not have 24 frets on their guitar.
