I tried a few rockhouse products over three years ago and had a bad experience. The only response I got from them when I needed to get a book (should have been with the DVD) was a 3 week email-tag process that didn't get resolved until I wrote a poor rating for that particular item. Once the rating was posted they got interested in helping me, and asked me to change my rating as well. I thought that perhaps they would have changed. The dvd is rated at 90 minutes, but less than half of that is real lessons. Lots of jamming from John McCarthy (a gifted guitarist to be sure), with the last of it being sales pitches for his other 'can't live without' products. If you have a favorite artist, get a copy of thier CD, a free download of the minor pentatonic, as well as a blues scale, and sort out what key it is in and you will be as well off as owning this DVD. There are a few good runs to be sure. The presentation is well done, but the content is rehashed older material that is easily learned from any intermediate guitarist friend that you may have.

This is flat out Amazing. You get a great DVD with clear lessons, along with tabs in a separate book for everything on the dvd. I learned more from this dvd then a year of lessons. Not to mention it is only the cost of one lesson. It also comes with tons of online features and help but I havent tried it out. You can't go wrong with this. Amazing buy

I got this DVD and have to say it was awesome! John McCarthy laid it all out in an easy to understand format. I was impressed with the amount of instruction Rock House put in one DVD. The instructional booklet had everything tabbed out, plus additional information and the best part of it all was that just by buying the DVD you are automatically a member of the Rock House Method website and all you have to do is put in the member number that's on the inside of the DVD case! The website rockhousemethod.com is jam packed with all kinds of support from backing tracks, tips, a place to ask the instructor a question, an exclusive forum for rock house members, free downloads and additional info from the DVD's. Not to mention that you can also buy any of the Rock House DVD's right thereon the site! I give it a 10 out of ten!! Rock on! Tony

If you've already gone through most of what's out there for this genre's scales, progressions, turn arounds, etc... then you've seen it and done it all. If you haven't; this is as good a place to start as any. It's all there; but, this is all there is... after this, it's creativity and talent. Then, get w/the other online web sites and just practice. There's no new magic here; but a presentation, better than most I've seen, for this price, any price really. There might be one or two neck runs they've missed, that'd made it more complete, but if you combine this some other Fret board patterns book, then that's it.

The instruction is good and precise, but the layout of the material is not. included is a booklet of tablature to read along with the DVD, but they are out of order. Be prepared to rewind and replay over and over and over to figure out exactly what he's playing. Other than that, it's not a bad instructional video considering the price, but i've seen better.
