History? Instructional = some basics if you can stay awake through all the talking, leg slapping and foot tapping on the first DVD. 2nd DVD is nothing but Smith jamming with his buds. I expected much more for the price. After this I will never again buy anything without seeing it first.

This DVD is very informative. Lots of druming footage. The DvD is Great trainer for experinced and unexperinced drummers. Worth the money. Like haveing private lessons.

I also recieved this DVD as a christmas gift and I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. He explains everything from hand technique all the way to how to master the origional jazz beats. Plus Steve Smith is such an amazing drummer as you will see in this video. It is truly an amazing buy.

I've been playing jazz/swing drums for 45 yrs (Krupa/Rich/Bellson influences). In the past 10 years, I'm taking my playing to another level, based on the stuff I'm hearing from modern drummers. This DVD helped me nail some concepts & techniques that were long dormant in my thinking & playing. I cannot fathom that a new (or returning) drummer would not immensely profit from this DVD; this is absolutely fantastic. Very broad instruction, covering most of what you will encounter. Get this...you won't regret it.

I received this as a Christmas gift. I was surprised how well Steve Smith explains in detail all the different techniques. I've seen other instructional drumming videos that pale in comparison. The DVD format with it's title menus are perfect for using as an instructional tool whether teaching yourself or others. I think anyone who is just starting out or already established will find this resource very useful.
