Total Scales, Techniques & Applications Family

Recommended for every guitarist regardless of playing level or musical taste. It starts with all the basics a beginner needs to know, and moves progressively through advanced and professional level techniques and applications. It is a scale encyclopedia, but more importantly it shows every possible way of using the scales to make music. You learn to play in every key and use every position on the fretboard.

The CD includes many examples to enhance your learning.

"...pure playing with basic scales and also tons of cool exotic scales that intermediate and advanced players will really enjoy. ...tons of cool guitar techniques... a rare resource that you'll use far more than you might anticipate." Chris Arnold, Guitar Digest Magazine

Perhaps I'm cheap, but when I pay for a book, I want everything included. Since starting to learn guitar I've had to purchase three at this price. This one is the best for starting basic technique such as picking, scales and reading notes and guitar tabs. I really like how they have the notes and tabs side-by-side so you can learn either or both. It has enough lessons to keep you busy for a long time and is realistic in asking you to practice every day. It'll be a while until I plow through the book. The other 2 books a new guitarist will need is a book of chords (where it shows both tabs and has photos on how to position your fingers) and a songbook. Using all three making learning guitar fun and progressive...so pick up this one as part of the arsenal, but I wouldn't depend on it for everything.

virtually no theory is explained in this book. It's more of a scale dictionary. It does not really explain how to apply the scales through playing.

Well, I must say, this book is amazing! I'm 16 and really just a rythm guitarist for my church band, and trying to learn some leads, tricks, stuff like that. This book has everything! It has so many different scales, and applications for the scales! I seriously love this book. It's so hard to walk away, because it tells so much! Definitely am proud of this purchase!

Ok. Well to start. This isn't just a book of scales. It shows you tons of different scales, and even more techniques on how to use them. Don't get this if you aren't serious. Most people buy books and they sit because they don't have the patience to learn it. This will help you A TON if you are serious about playing. And it's will take some time as well. Can't expect to just pick it up and play every note in any scale. You have to take the time to learn EVERYTHING in the book. And it WILL pay off... I have been playing guitar for two years. And I thought I was pretty good untill I saw such an improvement after finishing this book. DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY!! GET THIS BOOK!!!
